Government Abstinence Commercial
Ok, so I am watching the tele tonight and a government commercial about talking to your kids about sex comes on (click here to see the ad). That’s perfectly fine with me: talking to kids about sex at an early age is a very wise decision. But then, the "motto" of the commercial comes on and says:
"Tell your kids you want them to wait until they’re married to have sex. And talk with them early and often so they have a better chance of success.”Uh, excuse me?! So, basically, if you do have sex before you get married, you will experience ‘less’ success?
I do believe is fair to say, though, that those who have sex before marriage are putting themselves at more risk for various things than those who abstain… it's as simple as that.
But here’s the question: why wait until marriage to find out your potential partner is not compatible with you sexually? I can't imagine how a couple who chooses not to have sex could date, fall in love, and get married without having an idea of each other's sexual appetite.
Abstinence is mainly based in morality: you either believe that premarital sex is wrong, or you don't. But don’t get me wrong…I am all for teaching the kids about sex. It's part of being a parent. But children should make the decision for themselves. I don't think the government should be wasting money on an abstinence campaign. Instead, utilize the funds for a better sex education. It's always better to give kids the facts and hope they go out and make good decisions, since the more educated kids are, the more likely they are to make better decisions about sex.
Anyone else care to share your opinion on this?

With that line of thought, GLBT kids/teens/adults would never be allowed to have sex. Well maybe in Vermont. Hey, wait, if I keep that same line of logic, this is the same group that says only male on female vaginal sex is actually sex. So go ahead gay, bi, & transgender kids. Knock yourselves out. Oh, and make sure you don't use a condom. You're parents aren't supposed to be teaching you about those either!
This is plain ridiculous!
Just leave abstinence to church... and keep sex ed for school.
I believe that it is fine to have sex before marriage because you can tell how attached you are to a person through sex because you have to know that person to the fullest to see if she or he is going to work out.... so I am totally Okay with pre-material sex.
