The 2007 Mies Van Der Rohe Award

The Mies Van Der Rohe Award, established in 1987 and also known throughout Europe as the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, is granted every two years by the European Union and the Fundació Mies Van Der Rohe in Barcelona, Spain. The purpose of the competition is to acknowledge and reward quality architectural production in Europe. The Foundation is a non-profit association founded in 1983 to promote architectural discussions and knowledge in Europe.
Candidates for the Award are selected by a large group of experts from all over Europe, as well as from the Architects’ Associations that form part of the
European Council of Architects and other European national architects’ associations.

The following are the seven finalists for the Mies Van Der Rohe Award 2007:

The name of the winner will be announced in Barcelona on May 14th, with a grand prize of 50,000 Euros.
Some of the previous winners are Rem Koolhaas (2005), Zaha Hadid (2003), Rafael Moneo (2001), among others.
I will be posting a follow-up note announcing the winner sometime next week.
